Condolences on the death of Pope Francis

The President of Russia sent a message of condolences to Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, following the death of Pope Francis.

The message reads:

“Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis.

Pope Francis was held in great respect internationally as a devoted servant of the Christian faith, a wise religious leader and statesperson, and a consistent defender of the high values of humanism and justice.

Throughout the years of his pontificate, Pope Francis actively promoted the dialogue between Russian Orthodox and the Roman Catholic churches, as well as constructive interaction between Russia and the Holy See.

I had many opportunities to converse with this outstanding man, and I will forever cherish his memory.

In this sad hour, I would like to convey my words of sympathy and support to you and the entire Catholic clergy.”
